THESE STORIES CAN’T BE TOLD ENOUGH.

When the worst nature has to offer brings out the best in people.

This one is about Spanish Wells, a little-known island in the Bahamas, and its neighboring islands The Abacos. Both were in the path of Hurricane Dorian, the worst in The Bahamas’ history. Winds reached 185 MPH.

Spanish Wells was spared. The Abacos were not. Lives were lost. Houses, businesses and schools were destroyed. Children suffered the most  — their homes and families uprooted, water and food supplies destroyed and the future uncertain.

That’s when the people of Spanish Wells stepped in.

The community reached out to The Abacos with the first responders, sending their fishing fleet vessels to bring food, water and life-saving medical supplies.  The ships picked up hundreds of homeless families, bringing them home to the safe harbor of Spanish Wells, taking in several hundred school children to attend their small local school, which at one point, doubled it’s enrollment. Today there are more than 70 additional students along with several hundred displaced family members on the island.

The community, with a normal year round population of 1,500, is strained as well, as it currently is providing meals to hundreds of children and their families.

THE KIDS NEED YOUR HELP!

This situation has put a strain on  Spanish Wells, overwhelming the small island’s resources and school facilities. They need school supplies and books, clothes, and, most critically, donations to feed the kids and their families.

Please consider helping these kids.

Sincerely,
